Review 2011: Is it worth blogging? Insight into the lyrics-for-web traffic (3)

22, December 2011

My last blog account is now almost exactly six months back and dated on the 29th June 2011. Soon, the year is over, so time for a little look back at the first nine months of good texts for the web as a blog. Instead detail Zahlenhuberei it should go this time but mainly to insights, problems and providing insights into bloggers sewing box:

Insight I: Traffic grows by 30 percent compared to June
The numbers I think it is short and sweet this time, the trend continues it clear up: The strongest month in the first half of 2011 was June. Since then attaches the traffic after surviving the silly season Delle month after month continue, for November Visit the blog is a plus of 30 percent on the June values. This positive trend will continue in the foreseeable December: Compared to the previous month, it is once again expected to top 10 percent.

Really surprising for a young blog that's perhaps not really meaningful, the numbers are probably more in comparison to the development in the media industry as a whole. There it is: Compared with the IVW figures for June to August 2011, determine that a decline in visits by 1.46 percent, the Visit-Traffic-www.texten on flood-web.de increase over the same period by more than 30 percent. The reader inside popularity grows stronger against the industry trend relatively quickly. A big thank you to you for that, dear readers!

Insight II: Mobile traffic has stagnated
Many market studies forecast for some time that the site's traffic growth is relatively stronger in the future resulting from mobile user queries. In the texts-for-web traffic to these predictions, however, do not beat down: After the implementation of the mobile version of the site although there was a significant jump in the mobile requests upward since then, however, not only stagnating share of mobile requests, he even goes back, from 12 to 9 percent of the total traffic. I explain this development especially with the still relatively regularly interspersed by me by moving picture use on a smartphone is technically still rather weak and not very comfortable (Flash, bandwidth) and the time window for the in-between retrieving videos are during the day, about while waiting at the bus stop or at the grocery store, maybe just too short. Also, I quite often publish relatively long texts - and are not necessarily suitable for the in-between surfing. Ergo that is probably: My blog is currently not particularly suitable for mobile Rezipieren.

Insight III: Blogging brings Feedback and contacts
Perhaps you have wondered occasionally: Why does he do that anyway? Whether they believe it or not me: First and foremost, because it's fun. Here I can: organize my thoughts, observations hold proclaim opinion, weaving stay up to date. And best of all that I can share with you, discuss with you all in public.

The project is far from altruistic created, after all, it should also be networking platform and promote book sales. And it works perfectly: For such a small blog I get so my impression a lot of feedback, even if the feedback (too) often do not have the comment box in the blog came to me, but in other ways. And there are many new contacts in the industry. This is sometimes surprising, always rewarding, always motivating.

How much of the profits from book sales blog is not clearly observed. In any case texts for the web as a book since its launch almost consistently in the front ranks of the Amazon bestseller list for online journalism, usually even to square 1 If this continues, the new edition is completely sold out soon.

In addition, this course also plays a role: From my perspective as a journalism professor blogging is just for aspiring journalists an important building block skills because digital publishing advances, sooner or later crafted into the center journalistic work. Regular show just blogging for beginners connecting a compatible basis in many areas, such as the cross-media publishing or into self-publishing. Because it seems to me professionally duty also to keep as a teacher in itself quite practical to date.

Insight IV: Colorful brings adhesion
In terms of mix of topics I've been thinking maturely before starting the blog which substances could be catchy. It made sense to practice tips and writing exercises in the topic mix. Not quite so clear was the decision to intersperse also colorful messages. If I now after almost nine months of look at the retention times and the list of the most read blog posts, the most successful texts are clearly three categories: There are the opinion posts, there are the detailed technical articles - and it's the colorful messages. If you are planning a professional blog, then I can only recommend therefore with deep conviction: Loosen the Expert on by colorful fabrics. This is the blog something light and strengthens the bond users, because not everyone always has the time to read long texts. About the colorful short messages, the blog will remain in the game, even if just is not time for extensive reading.

I continue?
My original plan was to blog on here www.texten-on flood-web.de exactly one year. This year ends on 07 February 2012, roughly six weeks. Meanwhile I am, however, come to ponder whether or not I continue to do it - simply because the project is developing very, very peppy in a variety of directions. The decision ultimately will depend on the further development of the Traffic and gut feeling. As long as there is no sudden sagging of the traffic and the access further continued growth, there is really little reason to stop. And: Should it continue as enjoyable as yet, I myself am quite curious to know how far the development can still go. I'm excited. You maybe also.

Either way Writing for the Web today is only once in the Christmas break - to 06 January 2012.

And therefore would like to thank you today for occasional or regular stopping by, set on a reunion in the new year and
wish you a merry Christmas and a happy 2012!

Sincerely,

Their
