Review 2011: Worth the blog? Insight into the lyrics-for-web traffic (3)

22nd December 2011

My last blog account is now almost exactly six months back and dated on the 29th June 2011. Soon is the year to end, so time for a little review of the first nine months of good writing for the web as a blog. Instead of detailed Zahlenhuberei it should go this time, but especially for insights, anomalies and to provide insights into bloggers inside story:

Insight I: Traffic is growing by 30 percent compared to June
The figures I think it is short and sweet this time, the trend continues it clear up: the strongest month in the first half of 2011 was June. Since then, the traffic shall, after surviving the silly season continues to dip month after month, for November is the blog for a visit-plus of 30 percent on the June values. This positive trend will continue also predicted in December: Compared with the previous month is again expected to top 10 percent.

This is really surprising for a young blog so maybe not really meaningful, the numbers are probably more in comparison with developments in the media industry as a whole. There it looks like this: Compared with the IVW figures for June through November 2011, the notice a decrease in visits by 1.46 percent, the visiting traffic increases for www.texten-for-web.de the same period by more than 30 percent. The popularity is growing so readers, bucking the industry trend relatively quickly. A big thank you goes out to you this, dear readers!

Insight II: Mobile traffic stagnates
Many market studies forecast for some time that the Web site traffic growth in the future will result from relatively more mobile user queries. In the texts-for-web traffic, these estimates suggest, however, not down: After the implementation was the mobile version of the site is indeed a significant jump in the mobile requests up since then, however, has stagnated, the share of mobile requests not only that he goes back, from 12 to 9 percent of total traffic. I explain this development, especially with the still relatively regularly from me interspersed videos: motion picture use on a smartphone is technically still rather weak and not very comfortable (Flash, bandwidth) and the time window for the in-between retrieving videos over the day, about while waiting at the bus stop or in the supermarket, or perhaps simply too short. In addition, I publish relatively frequently relatively long texts - and even that may not be suitable for in-between surfing. Ergo is the most: My blog is not currently suitable for mobile Rezipieren much.

Insight III: Blogging brings Feedback and contacts
Perhaps you have wondered occasionally: Why does that mean? Whether it's me, believe it or not: First and foremost, because it brings pleasure. I can: organize my thoughts, observations hold, express opinion, weaving stay up to date. And best of all that I can share with you, discuss with you all in public.

This project is not entirely altruistic created, then it should be networking platform and promote the sale of books. And it works perfectly: For such a small blog I get, so my impression, a lot of feedback, even though (too) often do not get the feedback about the comment in the blog zone for me, but in other ways. And there are many new contacts created in the industry. It is sometimes surprising, always rewarding, always motivating.

How strong is the book sale profits from the blog does not establish clear. In any case, writing for the Web as a book since its launch almost continuously in the front ranks of the Amazon bestseller list for online journalism, usually even to square 1 If this continues, the new edition is completely sold out soon.

In addition, it also plays a role: From my perspective as a journalism professor blogging is just for aspiring journalists is an important component of competence, because digital publishing brings sooner or craft journalistic work at the center. Regular blogging for beginners just creates a linkage capable in many areas of foundation, such as the cross-media publishing or to self-publishing. Because it seems to me professionally duty as a lecturer is also quite handy to keep themselves up to date.

IV access: Colorful brings adhesion
In terms of mix of topics I intend to start the blog to be given as to which substances might be catchy. It was natural to include practical tips and writing exercises into the mix of topics. Not quite as clearly was the decision to intersperse and colorful messages. If I now, after nearly nine months on the residence and look at the list of most-read blog posts, then include the most successful texts to clearly three categories: there are opinion pieces, there are the detailed technical articles - and there are the colorful messages. So if you are planning a professional blog, I can therefore recommend deep conviction only: Loosen the Expert on by colorful fabrics. This is the blog something light and strengthens user loyalty, because not everyone will always have the time to read long texts. About the colorful short messages, the blog will remain in play even if just for detailed reading any time.

Am I next?
My original plan was to www.texten here-for-web.de exactly one year blogging. This year ends on 07 February 2012, so in about six weeks. Meanwhile I am, however, come to wonder whether I decide to not continue to do - simply because the project is developing very, very spirited in many directions. Ultimately the decision will be dependent on further developments in traffic and the gut. As long as there is no sudden sagging in traffic and gives access to the further growth is stabilizing, there is really little reason to stop. And it should go so far as enjoyable as I myself am quite curious to find out how far can the trend. I'm curious. You perhaps also.

Either way, texts for the Web today is first of all into the Christmas break - up to 06 January 2012.

And so I thank you today for occasional or regular stopping by set, to seeing the new year and
I wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy 2012!

Sincerely,

Her
